From what the BBC is reporting, the base was also evacuated earlier. Trump also just happens to have already scheduled a west wing meeting for this time before today.

I imagine there’s some sort of communication between Iran and the US, to not seem weak in not responding, but also to avoid an escalation. Trump does not want the US to be in another “forever war”, that will kill his popularity. Iran cannot handle a war with the US while under Israeli attack

Edit: BBC just now is reporting that Iran notified Qatar of the attacks before they happened.

MSNBC is reporting that Iran spoke with Qatar to let them know Iran would be sending missiles to the US base there. Qatar should have voiced their concerns at that point I would think - but of course they could have and that wasn't reported.

"Gave permission" is not the correct warning. Iran probably informed via back channel that the attack was going to happen and US took precaution.

Qatari gov’t was notified by IRGC both privately and publicly. The secret conversation was agreed upon for shows only so that Iranians will feel better that the Ayatollah is doing something about it. In return, Qatar will kind of shoot down the slower missiles and drones with an advanced LAT/LONG coordinates.
